Aviation Sector To Deliver High-Quality Meteorological Services- NiMET

Aviation industry representatives have expressed their dedication to providing top-tier meteorological services tailored to the sector’s specific requirements.

 The stakeholders made this known after a Quality Management System (QMS) in Abuja, Nigeria.

The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Professor Charles Anosike represented by a Special Assistant, Asaniyan Taiwo, assured stakeholders of the ongoing modernization of NiMet infrastructure and investment in state-of-the-art equipment and technology to improve weather observation, forecasting, and dissemination capabilities.

He also highlighted the ongoing capacity building of staff through training and retraining.

“For effective and improved service delivery, MOUs have been signed with local and international partners to deliver more resilient and customer-centric NiMet products and services for a sustainable aviation sector and safety of air navigation in Nigeria,” Professor Anosike concluded. 

 Also, the Head of Quality Management System (QMS) at NiMet, Usman Abdulrahman, highlighted the need for airline pilots to attend briefings in the flight crew briefing rooms (FCBR) to plan their flights.

Abdulrahman emphasized the significance of providing basic meteorology training for airline dispatch officers to enhance their proficiency in flight planning and dispatch operations.

He emphasized the importance of implementing robust weather applications to enhance access to weather information and the retrieval of aviation products and services. Additionally, he highlighted the necessity of acquiring the aviation terminal information system (ATIS) to alleviate the workload of air traffic control (ATC) to enhance efficient service delivery within the aviation sector.

 The meeting which was held at the Hajj Centre, Domestic Airport Private Wing of the airport drew participants from the following agencies; Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Federal Airports Authority (FAAN), Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Nigerian Safety and Investigation Bureau (NSIB), Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Nigerian Airforce (NAF) and Green Africa Airlines.
