Ballon d’Or 2024: Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman makes 30-man shortlist

Super Eagles and Atalanta forward, Ademola Lookman has been nominated for the 2024 Ballon d’Or award.

Lookman made the award nomination list after his heroics in the Europa League final where he scored a hat-trick as Atalanta defeated Bayer Leverkusen.

He is the only African player in the list. Eight-time winner and current holder Lionel Messi is not listed for this years’s award as well as five-time winner Cristiano Ronaldo.

This year’s Ballon d’Or list is dominated by players from the Spanish national team which won the Euro 2024 in the summer and the Real Madrid team that won the UEFA Champions League.

The 2024 Ballon d’Or award ceremony will take place on 28 October at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, celebrating the world’s most prestigious individual football player awards.
