The Managing Director of the Bank of Agriculture, Ayo Sotinrin has commended the agricultural and nutrition initiatives of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, describing them as impactful interventions strengthening food security and addressing child malnutrition in the country.
Sotinrin made the remarks when he was received by the First Lady at her office in the State House, Abuja.
Speaking to State House Correspondents after the meeting, he said; “the various agriculture-focused programmes championed by the First Lady are yielding positive results, not only in boosting food production but also in improving maternal and child healthcare outcomes.”
Sotinrin highlighted the forthcoming launch of a National Community Food Bank Programme, recently announced by Mrs Tinubu, noting that the initiative would “tackle malnutrition from the source by promoting bio-fortified food production from the farming stage.”
According to him, “the intervention is designed to ensure sustainable access to nutritious food while strengthening community-level food systems across the country.”
The Managing Director of the Bank of Agriculture stated that he was in the First Lady’s office to work out final details on the roll out of the National Community Food Bank programme.
He was optimistic that future generations of Nigerians would be healthier.
Sotinrin explained that “the Every Home A Garden competition is another initiative of the First Lady that is also in focus for the bank as it seeks to further drive the food security agenda of the Nigerian government by setting up a scheme for female civil servants which they can access through the Every Home a Garden programme.”
Recently at the 2026 National Traditional and Religious Leaders Summit on Health, the First Lady flagged off an advocacy and awareness campaign for the National Community Food Bank program, designed to address child malnutrition in the country.
