English Premier League team Tottenham Hotspur is prepared to challenge Spanish champions Barcelona for the services of Nigerian international Wilfred Ndidi as he considers a move from Championship team Leicester City.

Ndidi’s contract with Leicester runs until the end of the season, and a potential renewal will largely depend on whether Maresca manages to keep his team in contention for an immediate return to the Premier League.

The midfielder was linked with a move away from Leicester after the Foxes were relegated from the Premier League last season while players such as James Maddison, Harvey Barnes and Timothy Castagne left for top-flight clubs, Ndidi remained at the King Power.

So far this season, the central midfielder has made 15 appearances in all competitions, registering three goals and four assists. He has helped Leicester go top of the table with 13 wins from their first 16 outings.

Barcelona’s financial crisis has been well documented and the La Liga giants are looking to sign the Super Eagles midfielder on a free transfer as it has been the club’s tradition in the last two seasons.

Under the Bosman ruling, Barcelona will be able to strike a contract agreement with Ndidi in January ahead of a free transfer next summer.

However, the Catalans are not the only side interested in the Nigerian after reports emerged that Tottenham manager, Ange Postecoglou, has also shown keen interest in Ndidi.

According to a UK publication, teamtalk, Postecoglou does not consider Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg the right man for his system and is willing to bring Ndidi to the club when his contract expires next summer.

Meanwhile, Barcelona and Tottenham are not the only clubs monitoring the contract situation of the 26-year-old with reports suggesting that Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid and Juventus, who have all enquired about signing Ndidi over the summer, are still looking at the possibility of signing the player when he runs of contract.
