Bauchi Govt Disseminated Standards, Guidelines For Management Of GBV Survivors

The Bauchi State Government  disseminated a Standards and Guidelines it developed for the management of victims of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in the state.

 

Mr Ali Babayo, Permanent Secretary, Ministry for Health, said during the dissemination event in Bauchi, that the document would support the provision of quality services to GBV survivors.

 

Babayo explained that the document was developed to improve the capacity, consistency, and sustainability of regulatory system support, in the medical management of GBV survivors.

 

According to him, the document will provide a platform for coordination, collaboration, and information sharing among critical stakeholders.

 

It will further encourage the adoption of best practices among stakeholders, towards improving the medical management of GBV survivors.

 

“The documents will equally provide the needed direction for stakeholders in the fight against the GBV, as anyone, irrespective of gender, can become a survivor.”

 

The permanent secretary expressed the government’s commitment towards addressing the issues of GBV in communities.

 

He said that the Gov. Bala Mohammed-led administration has already inaugurated a Standing Committee to support victims in the state.

 

GBV has become rampant in our society and to tackle it, we need various stakeholders like the Police, officials of the Ministry for Women Affairs, doctors, the judiciary, and other agencies to be on the same page,” he said.

 

In his remarks, Mr Aliyu Idris, Permanent Secretary, Ministry for Justice, called for a stronger working synergy among stakeholders to provide efficient services to GBV survivors.

 

On her part, Mrs Zuwaira Baba, Gender Desk Officer, Ministry for Health, said that the development of the document was supported by IPAS Nigeria, a non-government organisation working to advance reproductive justice.
