The commitment was made during a media engagement on Saturday in Bauchi, organised by the Women, Child, Youth, Health, and Education Initiative (WCY) and Leadtots Development Initiative.

The initiative is funded by Global Affairs Canada through Plan International Nigeria.

Mr Umar Said, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Bauchi State, speaking at the event, emphasised the need for continuous capacity building for journalists to ensure effective and impactful ASRH coverage.

Mrs Elizabeth Kah, a journalist with Bauchi Television, stressed the importance of stronger collaboration between civil society organisations (CSOs) and the media to promote public interest initiatives and drive policy reforms.

Mr Ahmed Kaigama, the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Secretary in the state, emphasised the need for intensified collective advocacy efforts.

He urged that these efforts should focus on pushing policymakers to increase funding, ensure timely budget releases, and improve the implementation and performance of ASRH programmes.

The engagement brought together journalists from various media platforms, reinforcing the media’s role in amplifying conversations on sexual and reproductive health rights and fostering collective action for positive change.
