Bayelsa State wins national Cycling Road Championship
Krotimi Abaka and Ese Ukpeseraye, both from Bayelsa State, won the elite men’s and women’s divisions of the National Cycling Road Championship, which was supported by the Rivers State government, yesterday in Port Harcourt.

The National Cycling Road Championship, in conjunction with the Rivers State government, was held on May 21.
To win the top prize of N600,000 each, the new champions finished in times of three hours, 48 minutes, 26.02 seconds and two hours, 34 minutes, 24.2 seconds, respectively.
Bethel Okeyah of Rivers State and Mary Samuel of Delta State tied for second place and received N400,000 each.
Adeniran Okpeyemi from Lagos and Happiness Ernest from Rivers State won the bronze medals for the Elite Men and Women, respectively.
The male junior champion was Precious Effiong of Rivers, and the silver and bronze medals went to Cleopas Funkebi of Bayelsa and Bazeet Odebiyi of Delta, respectively.
The women’s junior gold medal went to Patience Ottuadong of Rivers State, while the silver and bronze medals went to Divine Ogbe of Edo State and Aishat Arogundade of Delta State, respectively.
The President of the Cycling Federation of Nigeria (CFN), Giadomenico Massari, praised Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, for sponsoring the competition and for his support of the federation.
“This championship, through the support of the Rivers State government, has established a high bar and a new record in cycling events in Africa and it is our desire to sustain the momentum for posterity, “ Massari said.
