Bayelsa United, Bendel Insurance, El-Kanemi, Doma United Join NPFL

Bayelsa United FC, who are current champions of the AITEO Cup will join Bendel Insurance, El-Kanemi Warriors and Doma United FC as the four promoted teams for the 2022/2023 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season.

Seven (7) seasons after their relegation from Nigeria’s top flight league, Bayelsa United FC on Saturday August 26, 2022 defeated Cynosure FC 2-0 to return to the NPFL.

Bayelsa United FC finished the season with 44 points from 24 matches to edge Crown FC (42) and Warri Wolves (40) to the sole promotion ticket in Group B2 of the 2021/2022 Nigeria National League (NNL) season.

Bendel Insurance Football Club of Benin defeated stubborn Ikorodu City FC of Lagos 2-0 and sealed promotion to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL)

The Technical Director of Bendel Insurance coach Monday Odigie on his part ascribed the team’s success to the Edo state government, particularly the Deputy Governor who has been a source of inspiration for the Club. He also gave kudos to the management and his players who got the job done with two games to spare.

Doma United

Gombe State-based football club Doma United sealed promotion to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) for the first time in the history of the club.

Doma United defeated 2nd placed Jigawa Golden Stars on match-day 20 of the Nigeria National League (NNL). The Gombe based team were promoted with two games to spare in the NNL.

El-Kanemi Warriors

El-Kanemi Warriors

El-Kanemi Warriors secured promotion to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) after topping the group A league fixtures in Sokoto after a goalless draw with Sokoto United.

After three years of trying to come back to the top division, the Borno State-based side’s push finally paid off following a 3-1 defeat of their closest challengers City FC of Abuja, who were beaten by Mighty Jets FC of Jos on the final day.

On their part, El-Kanemi held Sokoto United to a 0-0 draw in Sokoto to finish two points clear at the top of their Northern Conference Group log.
