Bayero University graduates 11, 284 at Convocation

The Bayero University Kano in North West Nigeria has awarded degrees to 11, 284 students in 18 Faculties.

 

The 38th convocation ceremony saw the emergence of 180 with First class honours.

 

The Institution also conferred higher degrees and Postgraduate Diplomas on 5,432 graduands who have completed their studies.

 

Also, the Deputy Senate President Barau Jibril and the President of the African Development Bank Mr. Akinwumi Adesina were conferred with honorary doctorates by the BUK.

 

Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu represented by the Minister of Education Professor Tahir Mamman reiterated the readiness of the government to promote Education and sustainable development.

 

He said, the administration is working towards revamping vocational and Tsangaya centres to improve Education and expand skills among youths in the country.

 

On the issue of power challenges in universities, Tinubu said, arrangements are ongoing with the Ministry of Power and Ministry of Education to work out modalities to develop sustainable power to boost university research through compressed natural gas.

 

While congratulating the graduates, the Senate President Mr Godswil Akpabio challenged them to consider themselves as leaders of tomorrow by making the best use of their degrees.

 

He said the current position of BUK made it to be among the institutions on the forefront in Africa.

 

He called on members of the parliament and other elected officials to emulate the Deputy Senate President by investing in education for the development of the country.

 

The Vice Chancellor of Bayero University Kano Professor Sagir Abbas, announced that the Institution is now ranked the 5th best University in Nigeria in the 2024 Universities Assessment ranking by Times Higher Education.

 

The VC said, “Bayero University was ranked the second best University in Nigeria in terms of International outlook, coming after Covenant University.”

 

He said the Institution will not relent in its determination to improve its visibility on the global scene.

 

“We will continue to ensure quality and standard as well as improved facilities for enhanced teaching and research.”

 

“Bayero University is a globally top-ranked university with a commitment to education, research and community services. Over the last couple of years, the university has been pursuing the following vision plan: 

 

“To transform it from a teaching to a research-based university; to transform it from an on a predominantly Arts/Humanities to Science-based university; to make it an information and communication technology-driven university and to be a global best practice university,” he said.

 

While congratulating the graduands the VC called on them to behave well having been found worthy in both Character and learning.

Making History

 

The VC informed the gathering that BUK made significant history in November last year by graduating its first Doctors of Pharmacy (Pharm D) in Nigeria where 30 graduated from the faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

 

He commended Governor Abba Yusuf for the payment of registration fees to 600 Indigents and the contributions of AA Rano, and Senor Barau Jibril among other stakeholders towards promoting quality Education in the country.

 

The Director General Voice of Nigeria Malam Jibrin Baba Ndace an Alumni of the Institution, salutes the stages of progress witnessed in BUK in research and development.

 

Ndace urged the graduands to be good ambassadors of the institution and represent the Alumni anywhere they find themselves.
