Be Up To Date, House Urges Auditor General

The House of Representatives Ad-Hoc committee on Agricultural Subsidy Intervention Funds, Aids and Grants Programmes, has warned the Office of the Auditor General of the Federation (OAuGF) to be up to date in the auditing of government agencies in Nigeria.

The Chairman of the committee Mr. Jamo Aminu gave the warning at the resumed hearing of the committee in Abuja.

He said that the committee will no longer tolerate lapses from the OAuGF.

The Chairman also called for transparency in the discharge of the duties of the OAuGF.

He noted that it is disheartening that the body responsible for checkmating fund disbursements is hoarding information from the National Assembly.

The warning followed the appearance of the Office of the Auditor General of the Federation before the committee.

A member of the committee, Mr. Inua Garba, lamented the lack of appearance of some of the stakeholders at the hearing.

He was particular about the Ministry of Agriculture, the Central Bank of Nigeria amongst others.

A representative of the Office of the Auditor General of the Federation in the Ministry of Agriculture, Mr. Goewan Muhammed said that the office carries out the auditing of agencies to the best of it’s abilities.

He stressed that the OAuGF work with documents presented to it by Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

He however pledgef that they would go further to probe and return to the committee with more disclosures.

A director in the OAuGF, Mr. Aromiwura Olakunle said that they are ready to start the work immediately.

He however pointed out that the ministry is not releasing documents to them.

The committee adopted a motion that the Auditor General of the Federation must appear before the committee in person as well as other chief executives.

The committee gave the OAuGF, one week to reappear with their report.
