Bendel Insurance Beats Rangers International, Wins Federation Cup
Bendel Insurance FC beat Enugu Rangers 1-0 to win the men’s edition of the 2023 NFF-TINGO Federation Cup, ending a 43-year spell to lift the title on Wednesday at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, Delta State, Nigeria.
The Benin City-based side started the season on a very high note and finished the 2022/23 abridged Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season with an 18-match unbeaten run.
Bendel Insurance fell off at the Championship Super 6 playoffs, where the Benin Arsenal finished fifth with two defeats and three draws.
A strike from Imade Osarenkhoe in the first half from the penalty spot was enough to seal a 1-0 victory for the Edo state-owned club.
It was Bendel Insurance’s fourth Federation Cup title in the club’s history and its first since 1980.
They have now finished the season with silverware and clinched the ticket as Nigeria’s second representative in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.
For winning the 2023 NFF-TINGO Federation Cup title, Bendel Insurance will receive a cash prize of 15 million naira.
