The Benue State Executive Council SEC in North Central Nigeria has approved the establishment of a Benue Public Service Institute (BPSI), for the training of Civil Servants in the State to enhance optimal performance.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Benue State, Mr. Tersoo Kula who announced this while briefing journalists at the end of the Executive meeting, said this was part of the resolutions taken by the Benue State Executive Council at its weekly meeting on Thursday.
He said when established, the institute will serve as a training wing for all categories of Civil Servants and Local government workers in the State to improve their capabilities for enhanced productivity.
He explained that the establishment of the Institute had become imperative after the initial Staff Development Centre founded by the First Civilian Governor of Benue State, the late Apollos Aper Aku went extinct.
He maintained that the Institute which is the brainchild of Governor Hyacinth Alia led administration to reposition the service will provide sound training by equipping Civil Servants with modern skills and techniques for quality service delivery.
The Chief Press Secretary also informed that plans had reached an advanced stage for the construction of two overhead bridges in two separate locations within Makurdi, the State Capital.
The overhead bridges are to be cited at the popular Wurukum roundabout which connects the North and Southern parts of the country with other locations within the city centre as well as the High-Level roundabout in the highbrow of Makurdi town to reduce traffic congestion.
He said feasibility studies were currently being carried out and other modalities put in place for the construction of the two overhead bridges which would be the first of its kind in Benue State since the state was created in 1976.
The Chief Press Secretary also said that the Executive Council equally approved the change in nomenclature and repositioning of about eight Ministries in the state to tally with the Ministries operated by the Federal Government.
He mentioned the affected Ministries as Works, Housing and Urban Development, Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy, and Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development.
Others include the Ministry of Power, Renewable Energy and Transport, the Ministry of Science Technology and Innovation, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security and the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment.
Mr. Kula announced that approval was also granted by the SEC for the construction of one rural road in each of the three Senatorial Districts of the state.
The Council he said equally commended Vice President Kashim Shettima for his recent visit to Benue State during which he mediated the crisis within the ranks of the APC party stalwarts in the state.
