The Ogun State Police Command arraigned the hip hop singer on a three-count charge bothering on assault and theft of musical equipment.

But, Portable was granted bail by the presiding Magistrate of the of the court today ( Monday).

The controversial singer was granted bail of N300,000, with two sureties from his immediate family.

The Magistrate said Portable should fulfil the bail condition before leaving the court premises.

Portable was arrested on Friday by police operatives, after he had turned down series of invitations extended to him.

The singer’s travails began last week when he shared an Instagram live video claiming that some police personnel stormed his bar at Sango Ota at the request of an Internet fraudster (Yahoo Boy).

The video, which has since gone viral, sparked some outrage online, which prompted the Ogun State Police Command to invite the singer to their office.

However, Portable refused to show up after the 72-hour ultimatum given to him by the police to turn himself in.

On Saturday, Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi said portable has more than six charges to attend to, apart from resisting arrest and injuring a policeman.

“He will be charged to court for beating up a guy in Ota, who filed a petition to CP Ogun,” Adejobi tweeted.

“There are many pending cases of assaults on people and attacks, and he will be investigated because people have complained against him”.

“So, there is no sentiment in law, let him appear in court, and allow the judge to listen to the charges against him. He has no constitutional immunity anyway.”

The singer argued that his arrest was “unwarranted,” adding that he makes his money “legitimately.”

The 29-year-old also referred to himself as “a federal government liability”.

Centre urges FG to regulate use of antibiotics

0

The Centre for Molecular Biosciences and Biotechnology (CMBB) of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike in Abia, has urged the Federal Ministry of Health to regulate the use of antibiotics in the country.

The Director of CMBB, Prof. Ifeoma Ijeh, made the call on Monday during the opening ceremony of a four-day workshop organised by the centre in Umudike themed “Molecular and Phenotypic Characterisation of Antibiotic Resistance Using Biofilm Markers.”

Ijeh, who said that there is excessive use and misuse of antibiotics, added that the exposure could lead to gradual development of resistance. According to her, excessive use or misuse of antibiotics is the reason why some people will continue to treat a particular disease but it refuses to go.

The nutritional and toxicological biochemist said “you notice these days that most standard hospitals will send you for culture and sensitivity test to identify the antibiotics which these organisms can respond to before they start treating you.

“But the average person just wakes up, goes to a shop and buys drugs off the counter; and when the person is sick and is being treated, the sickness will not just go because he/she had abused such antibiotic and had become resistant.’’

According to her, one cannot just walk into a shop and buy a drug without prescription in many developed countries of the world. She said that the workshop was aimed at bringing in new simpler and faster tools in identifying resistant trends and sensitive antibiotics.

The director also said that the workshop would also expose participants to international experts in the field of Antimicrobial Resistance, who would serve as key resource persons. She explained that the participants would at the end of the workshop, acquire skills required for DNA extraction from microbial sources, Gel preparation, Gene expression and antimicrobial resistance, among others.

She added that the workshop, in collaboration with Nottingham Trent University, UK, was sponsored by the African Research Excellence Fund of the Medical Research Council, UK. She said that participants were drawn from staff of colleges that deal with biological science research in the university and sister institutions in the South East.
