Nigerian Up-coming Afrobeat artiste, Marcel Obute, popularly known as Bluboyy, has described the Nigerian music industry as fast-growing and a positive force on the global stage.
Obute, a Music graduate, made this known during an interview at the launch of his latest single, Ada, held on Saturday in Lagos.
The event was themed “Ada: A Music in Memory of Florence Adaora Obute”.
The song was inspired by the memory of his late younger sister, a passionate music lover who passed away after a four-year battle with bone marrow cancer.
“I got the inspiration to write this song, Ada, two days after her death. It was a painful experience, despite the collective effort by family members and friends,” he said.
Bluboyy praised the strides made in the Nigerian music scene, saying its global impact and growth rate could be rated as high as 90 per cent.
“We are doing really well, especially when you look at artistes like Davido, Burna Boy, Wizkid, Asake, Rema, Ruger and many others who are projecting Nigeria positively across the world,” he said.
He also described Afrobeat as the “heartbeat” of Nigerian music, citing its influence on the younger generation. He noted that Nigerian artistes were hardworking and had taken the industry to an international level.
On government support for the creative industry, Bluboyy called for increased investment in the music sector through the establishment of proper institutions.
“The government should set up not just an academy, but a standard music academy where those who want to pursue music professionally can be trained and educated.
“Investing in this fast-growing industry would yield financial gains and promote Nigeria globally. There should be a dedicated platform or ministry to support artistes and sponsor their development,” he added.
Bluboyy revealed that his tribute single, Ada, has already recorded over 45,000 streams across digital music platforms.
