BMW has announced plans to integrate Huawei’s HiCar smart-connect system into its vehicles produced in China, starting with the next-generation Neue Klasse models in 2026.

This move aims to enhance in-car connectivity for Huawei users by leveraging the HarmonyOS ecosystem, strengthening BMW’s presence in the Chinese market.

As part of the collaboration, BMW will introduce the BMW Digital Key, developed on HarmonyOS NEXT, in 2025. This feature will allow Huawei smartphone users to unlock, lock, and start their vehicles seamlessly.

Additionally, the My BMW App and MINI App are already available in the HarmonyOS NEXT app market, enabling users to remotely control their cars, check fuel levels, and monitor charging status.

Sean Green, President and CEO of BMW Group Region China, highlighted that nearly 25% of My BMW App users in China are on Huawei devices. He stated that BMW’s deep integration with HarmonyOS aims to enhance in-car applications and intelligent connectivity, improving the smart driving experience.

This partnership reflects BMW’s localisation strategy in China, collaborating with domestic tech firms to expand its digital ecosystem.

The upcoming Neue Klasse models will feature advanced electronic architecture, interactive systems, and digital innovations, solidifying BMW’s commitment to smart mobility in one of its biggest markets.
