The Broadcasting organization of Nigeria has sworn in the new executives to pilot the affairs of the organization.
Mr. John Ugbe, representing Multi Choice Nigeria Limited took the mantle of leadership as the chairman, while Dr. Mansur Liman who is the Director General of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria was sworn in as Vice Chairman.
At the well-attended ceremony in Abuja on Saturday, the newly sworn in chairman promised to uphold the vision of the founding fathers of the organization and also pledged to unite the country’s broadcasters and pursue a clear agenda of progress.
He said his team would focus on training, aggressive membership drive, professionalism and related issues that will add value to the organization.
“We appreciate the cross sectoral rotation of leadership. We will do our best to live up to the founding fathers.
“We are going to source for resources both local and international for training of members to boost their capacities on the job. We are going to do a train the trainer approach and also zonal training. We hope to do about 1000 by 2022.”
The chairman also promised to bring all broadcasters together, saying they are.going to be stronger together.
“We are going to embark on an aggressive awareness campaign for membership drive.
“We are also going to return the credible Broadcasting organization of Nigeria’s award of excellence, leveraging on Multi Choice experience in award organisation skills.
“We believe excellence should be awarded in the industry.
“Another major area is the establishment of the Nigeria Society of Broadcasters.
“We will pursue and lobby for it through the Parliament because we believe that will help in sanitising the industry.”
Mr Ugbe then pledged better inclusion,unity and professionalism.
Kano State Governor and chairman of the occasion Abdullahi Umar Ganduje advised the new executives to work with other stakeholders to move Broadcasting forward.
“Broadcasting has a role to play on the unity, peace and national development.“
In her address,the former chairperson of the organisation Sa’a Ibrahim called for continuity in some key project’s her EXCO initiated and started.
She made particular reference to the establishment of the Nigeria Society of Broadcasters, urging the new leaders to continue the struggle to have it established.
On his part, Director General of the National Broadcasting Commission, Balarabe Ilelah applauded BON for being a strategic partner of the regulatory agency.
He then charged the new executives to deeply look into the issue of professionalism in thee industry.
