Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has announced the commencement of exportation of plastic products from the state, describing it as a major milestone in his administration’s drive toward economic revitalisation and self-reliance.
Governor Zulum made the disclosure on Thursday during an inspection visit to the Borno Plastic Factory located in the new Maiduguri Industrial Area.

He said the move forms part of a broader strategy to industrialize the state and reduce dependence on monthly allocations from the Federation Account.
“I am happy to note that people from Borno State will no longer procure plastic materials from elsewhere. You have seen that our products are already being sold to neighbouring countries and other states across Nigeria.
We will continue to invest in our industries so that, in the near future, Borno State Government will no longer rely on federal allocation for its operations,” Zulum stated.
The governor revealed that the factory has begun fulfilling international orders, with finished plastic wares already exported to neighbouring countries, including Chad and the Republic of Cameroon.

He recalled that the facility was originally constructed during the administration of former Governor Kashim Shettima, but was revived under his administration as part of ongoing efforts to promote industrial recovery and development.
To ensure efficiency and sustainability, Governor Zulum explained that the factory now operates under a Public-Private Partnership arrangement, with Tatabe Global Services overseeing daily management, production, and marketing, while the state government provides oversight and a business-friendly environment.

Currently operating at full capacity, the factory produces a variety of plastic items, including chairs, tables, basins, and household wares.
It has also created hundreds of direct jobs for residents, contributing significantly to local employment and economic growth.
