Borno Government Distributes Food, Cash to Local Governments

The Borno state government has distributed food and cash gifts to the people of Jere Local government Area and Maiduguri Metropolitan Council MMC in North-East Nigeria.

The Borno state Commissioner for Sports and Youth empowerment who is also the acting chairman of the palliative committee, Comrade Saina Buba said:

Based on the governor’s directives we proceeded with the distribution of two wards in Jere LGA Mairi and Maimisari wards and now in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council MMC in Shehuri South and North which is what we are doing now.

“The total number of vulnerable people in both Jere and MMC are 8,000, 4000 men and 4000 women and each woman was given N10,000 naira amounting to 40,000,000 million naira.

Buba also said those selected are from among the most vulnerable people irrespective of party, tribe and religion.

The commissioner for women affairs, Hajjiya Zuwaira Gambo said: The tradition of giving support to the vulnerable in the state especially women and children have been consistent even when the federal government came with their palliative, we had a model on ground because of the leadership style of Professor Babagana Umara Zulum.

The selection of the vulnerable was done in consultation with all the stakeholders, traditional leaders, religious leaders, market leaders etc.

 

 

The chairmen of Jere LGA, Alh Umar Bolori and Maiduguri Metropolitan Council, Abubakar Gujja expressed delight over the kind gesture by the government.

A beneficiary Aisha Mohammed thank the governor for the kind and sympathetic gesture.

The Borno state governor, Babagana Umara Zulum who launched the distribution of the palliatives last week, said the State Government is set to target 100,000 vulnerable people as beneficiaries of the palliatives.
