Borno state Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum has distributed palliatives to the less privileged persons in three communities, namely Baga, Doron Baga, and Kauwa, in Kukawa Local Government Area, Northeast Nigeria.
Governor Zulum was received by the brigade commander at the mile 4 military base in Kukawa, alongside 2 Federal members lower house at the National Assembly Hon. Bukar Talba, and Hon. Gana Kareto as well as the member representing Kukawa at the State assembly, Hon. Karta Maina Ma’aji lawan.
The governor was on a one-day working visit to the local government for the distribution of food and none food items and also inspects some government own facilities which are dilapidated and mostly destroyed by the insurgents.
Governor Zulum in his remarks at the distribution ground said that the Borno State government will provide enabling environment for farmers to access their farmlands more easily.
In an interview, Governor Zulum said his visit was prompted by some complaints made by the indigenes on food shortage, the inability of access to farmlands and the economic stagnation of the axis as it is known to be among one of the economically viable areas in the state and best know for fishing business.
“We are here today to distribute food and none food items to at least not lesser than 20,000 people in the communities of Baga, Doron Baga, and Crus-Kauwa all under Kukawa LGA to cushion the effects of hardship especially as the subsidy removal impact is overwhelming.
“I urge the people of Kukawa to be law-abiding, the state government will liaise with the Nigerian Army to ease some of its restrictions for the farmers to access their farmlands, I will engage the operation commander and the brigade commander on the possibilities of easing some of its restrictions on some terrain which will also pave way for economic activities, especially along the river-line areas for fishing businesses.”
In addition, the governor inspected some of the health facilities in Doro Baga, and Baga communities, among the facilities inspected were the half-completed general hospital in Baga, initiated by the former governor, the project was put on hold due to the exigencies of boko haram.
The Governor pledged to continue with the project as relative peace is now recorded.
Furthermore, the governor said the government will immediately take action on some of the existing facilities and make provision for immediate items needed, the governor noted that the electric power supply is of the essence as well as the water system, it should be put in place.
