Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum has distributed packages containing a variety of agricultural tools and implements for dry season farming activities to over 2,000 resettled farmers in Damasak, the headquarters of Mobbar local Government in northern Borno.

Each pack consist of a water pump with accessories, NPK fertilizer, non-selective herbicides, 50 thousand litres of petrol, 2,000 litres of engine oil and rice seedlings.

The benefiting farmers were resettled after their displacement from parts of Mobbar LGA and they include farmers from neighbouring Abadam Local Government Area, which is under reconstruction ahead of their safe resettlement.

Governor Zulum said the intervention was part of sustained efforts to create jobs, revive and boost irrigation farming towards the recovery of agriculture and increase the potential for food sufficiency in the State.

In addition, the Borno State Governor directed that funds be released for the construction of 500 tube-well boreholes to increase access to water for irrigation activities.

Project Inspection

Before leaving Damasak, Governor Zulum inspected a massive water project being constructed by Senator Abubakar Kyari, as part of his constituency interventions in Damasak.

The water project, valued at 450 million naira, has a combined capacity of producing 950 thousand litres of water, with three deep aquifers and two middle aquifer water sources, with reticulation pipelines to connect townships.

Governor Zulum commended Senator Kyari for the laudable project, which he said would have a direct positive impact on the lives of the people.
