Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has handed over 110 brand-new operational vehicles, 500 motorcycles, and 280 housing units to the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies as part of efforts to enhance security operations in the state.

The distribution exercise was officially launched by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, who lauded the initiative, describing Governor Zulum as a “performing governor” committed to tackling insecurity in the North East.

The ceremony, held at the Government House in Maiduguri, was attended by top security officials, including the Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Waidi Shuibu, as well as Deputy and Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, among others.

The Nigeria Police Force will receive 60 operational vehicles, while the Nigerian military will be allocated 50 vehicles and 500 motorcycles.

In terms of housing distribution, the police will be provided with 220 houses at Mai Mala Buni Estate, 20 at Kashim Shettima Estate, and 40 at Wulari, all in Maiduguri.

Governor Zulum reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening security forces by equipping them with essential tools to enhance their efficiency and dedication.

“Today marks a significant milestone in our unwavering commitment to improving security in Borno State. We are here to hand over 110 operational vehicles, 500 motorcycles, and housing units to members of the Nigeria Police Force and the military, who continue to serve and sacrifice to safeguard our communities,” Zulum stated.

He emphasised that providing these assets would improve mobility, enhance response time, and boost operational capacity in combating insecurity and criminal activities.

Governor Zulum also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support of security agencies nationwide.

“We are grateful to the Federal Government, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for its strategic guidance and unwavering support to security agencies working tirelessly to protect lives and property.

“In Borno, we have maintained a strong partnership with security forces because we understand that without security, our efforts to rebuild and develop the state will not yield the desired results. By equipping our security forces, we are investing in faster response times and more effective operations against security threats. We remain committed to working together to create a safer and more prosperous future for our people,” he added.

In his remarks, IGP Kayode Egbetokun expressed gratitude for the support, noting that the vehicles and motorcycles would significantly boost operational efficiency.

“These assets, including 110 vehicles and 500 motorcycles, will greatly enhance our ability to respond to emergencies, improve patrol operations, and strengthen overall security in Borno State.

“We deeply appreciate this gesture, Your Excellency, and I assure you that these assets will be put to immediate use to ensure the safety and security of the people of Borno State,” the IGP stated.

The initiative reinforces the Borno State Government’s commitment to equipping security agencies with necessary resources, fostering peace, and improving security across the state.
