Borno Governor Leads Council Meeting, Approves Key Projects

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum presided over the inaugural council meeting of 2025, where the administration reviewed its 2024 achievements and approved several critical projects for the year ahead.

During the session, which was attended by all Council members, a total of 41 memos were presented, debated, and resolved.

The meeting focused on assessing past accomplishments while laying a solid foundation for continued development in 2025. Below are the key resolutions from the meeting:

Key Resolutions:

  1. Renaming of Borno State University

The Council approved renaming Borno State University to Kashim Ibrahim University. This decision is subject to legislative amendments by the State House of Assembly. The Ministry of Education and the university board are tasked with informing regulatory bodies such as the NUC and JAMB to facilitate the renaming process.

  1. Appointment of Deputy Chief of Staff

Dr. Engr. Babagana Malembe Mustafa, the Commissioner of Budget and Planning, was appointed as Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor. This appointment reflects his exemplary competence, dedication, and integrity.

  1. Street Naming and House Numbering Initiative

To support urban renewal in Maiduguri and other areas, the Council approved the systematic naming of streets and numbering of houses. Relevant MDAs, regulatory bodies, traditional leaders, and community stakeholders will collaborate to ensure effective implementation, which will enhance geolocation, urban planning, and development efforts.

  1. Dualization of Muhammadu Buhari International Airport Road

Funding was approved for the immediate dualization of the airport road. The state government has already contributed significantly to remodeling the airport by constructing parts of the terminal and providing fire trucks and utility vehicles. These efforts aim to support the airport’s growing operational needs.

  1. Educational Infrastructure Development

The Council approved the construction and upgrading of schools and educational facilities across the state, prioritizing access to quality education for residents of both urban and rural areas.

These resolutions demonstrate the Council’s unwavering commitment to driving development, improving infrastructure, and enhancing public services, setting the stage for sustained progress in 2025 and beyond.
