Borno State Governor in Northeast Nigeria, Babagana Zulum, has emphasised the need for politicians to ensure fairness in distributing palliatives to the state’s residents.
Over the past few weeks, the distribution of palliatives has been ongoing across the state, with the first phase targeting 300,000 people. Governor Zulum highlighted that these palliatives were a fulfilment of his promise to alleviate the hardships faced by the people, particularly in light of the subsidy removal.
He emphasized the transparency of the distribution process, He said: “The governor can’t be everywhere, and can’t know everyone, therefore, I urge politicians and Committee members to be just.“
Governor Zulum personally attended the flag-off event for the distribution of palliatives in the Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC). During the event, 2,000 bags of 50kg rice and another 2,000 bags of 10kg rice were set to be distributed.
He said: “The distribution comprises 15 wards of MMC with 12 wards from Jere local government, each ward will share 2000, bags of rice as well as 2000 bags of beans.”
Governor Zulum expressed gratitude for the receipt of 5 trucks of rice from the Federal government. This aid was intended to mitigate the impact of the subsidy removal, and he assured that his government would value and appreciate the gesture from the Federal government, particularly under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Abba Abor Kura, Hajja Fati, Hussaina Abdullahi and Hajjia Bintu were all beneficiaries who spoke to journalists at the distribution ground, expressed their appreciation and thanked the state government for such a timely gesture.
