Troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), operating under Sector 3 Monguno, have facilitated the surrender of seven notorious Boko Haram terrorists in Damasak, Borno State.
The insurgents, who surrendered with a large cache of arms, had been active in the region before voluntarily turning themselves in.
A statement by the Chief Military Public Information Officer of MNJTF, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, confirmed that the terrorists surrendered at Walada village following sustained military offensives. They were identified as Mallam Baba Ibrahim (19), Malam Bamai Ali (20), Mallam Jundu Ali (19), Mallam Abba Ali (25), Mallam Abubakar Mohammed (20), Tijjani Ali (20), and Mallam Ali Mommudu (25).
The insurgents confessed to participating in multiple terrorist activities across Northern Borno. They admitted they were exhausted by the conflict but had initially feared being killed if they surrendered.
Among the weapons and equipment handed over were; two RPG tubes, four RPG bombs,1 AK-47 rifle, 1 HK-21 German machine gun, eight empty magazines, 30 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and 715 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition. Others were; 51 NATO rounds, 12 mobile phones, six small solar panels, two bandoliers, four knives, and two horses.
The former insurgents are now providing valuable intelligence to the MNJTF.
The MNJTF has urged other terrorists to seize the opportunity to surrender, emphasizing that “laying down arms is a crucial step toward achieving lasting peace in the Lake Chad region. The force reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling terrorist networks and restoring stability throughout the area.”
