The Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum has handed over 447 homes, along with essential supplies, to Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, in Dalori, Konduga Local Government Council.

The houses, equipped with a hospital, school, and water supply, were constructed by the State government for families who had fled from the Boko Haram terrorists.

The IDPs, originating from Kawar Maila camp (197 households) and Dalori town (250 households), each received food, mats, blankets, and clothing. Governor Zulum emphasised the state’s commitment to supporting these returnees in starting afresh, including providing farming tools and business skills to enable self-sufficiency.

Since 2019, Zulum’s administration has resettled over one million IDPs and erected more than 10,000 houses in 20 locations.

The Governor also announced intentions to rebuild and resettle Dalwa, Sandiya, and other areas devastated by Boko Haram in Konduga Local Government Area.

Governor Zulum expressed dissatisfaction with keeping people in IDP camps, emphasizing the importance of integrating them back into their communities to contribute to the state’s growth.

He highlighted the closure of official IDP camps in Maiduguri and nearby areas last year and pledged to shut down all informal IDP camps in Maiduguri before May 29, 2024.

Governor Zulum stated, “Today, we initiated the closure of all informal IDP camps in Maiduguri, and, Insha’Allah, we will complete this process before May 29th, 2024.”
