The Commissioner for Information and Internal Security Professor Usman Tar, said in a statement, “the Borno State Government strongly condemns the recent attack on Kareto town in Mobbar Local Government Area, which occurred on November 16, 2024.

His Excellency, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, on behalf of the government and good people of Borno State, extends heartfelt condolences to the Nigerian Armed Forces and the families of the victims who lost their lives in this senseless act of violence. We pray that Allah grants the deceased eternal rest and gives their families the strength to bear this loss.

The attack on Kareto is a painful reminder of the callousness of the Boko Haram insurgents, who remain determined to disrupt the significant progress made in resettling internally displaced persons (IDPs) in northern Borno. Kareto, a vibrant community, is one of over 20 settlements prioritised for the resettlement of IDPs returning from Maiduguri and other locations.

Despite this setback, Governor Zulum reaffirms the unwavering resolve of the Borno State Government to fulfill its constitutional mandate of delivering peace, security, and development to the people. This heinous act will not deter our administration’s efforts to provide democratic dividends to all communities in collaboration with federal agencies.

The government commends the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies for their selfless dedication and sacrifices in defending our state. His Excellency acknowledges their critical role in protecting lives and property, stating, “We are eternally grateful to our gallant military for standing in harm’s way to safeguard our people and our way of life.”

Governor Zulum calls on the citizens of Borno to remain resilient, support the armed forces, and reject any attempts by the adversary to create fear or panic. He assures the public that the state government will continue to work closely with security agencies to enhance development and promote lasting peace.

The commissioner said that under Governor Zulum’s leadership, the Borno State Government remains steadfast in its commitment to rebuilding communities, supporting peacebuilding programs, and securing a better future for all”.
