The board was established on December 8, 2021, with its chairman and 13 members to restructure and elevate Arabic, Islamiya education across all 27 local governments in Borno State.

The initiative, endorsed by His Excellency, is to address the longstanding challenge of the absence of a unified curriculum in Islamic schools, ensuring a standardised and improved learning experience for students.

The chairman of the board stated this during the presentation, stressing that the curriculum was rooted in Imam Malik School of Thought, and encompasses subjects like Arabic, Quran, fikhu, Hadith, Sirah, and Tawheed.

He said; “the government is committed to ensuring that scholars adhere to the teachings of the Holy Quran and Hadith.

“With over 1,000 Islamic schools in the state, the recently established Board has profiled Sangaya and Islamic learning centers, receiving substantial support of approximately one billion Naira from the government. This financial backing aims to streamline activities and contribute to the re-radicalisation of young people.”

Governor Zulum praised the newly introduced curriculum for Sangaya and Islamic schools, expressing the intention to review and implement it effectively.

He said; “the matter will be brought to the State Executive Council for consideration, with plans to release a policy statement for widespread adoption.”
