Kwara United’s Brazilian winger Lucas Alves has hailed the Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL, saying it is competitive and blessed with talented players.

Alves, who last played for American side, Seahorses LA, joined the Ilorin-based club during the last transfer window ahead of the 2020/21 season.

“The Nigerian football league is very good, very competitive with a lot of good players. And I can say that the players are good enough to compete anywhere in the world,” Alves said.

On adjusting to life in Nigeria, the 24-year-old said, “I didn’t find it difficult adjusting to the league but to the environment because the players treated me very well in the dressing room. They are very friendly and they made me feel welcome.

“We hope we can make history as a group with Kwara United.”

The Afonja Warriors, who gained promotion back to the topflight league in 2017, currently sit top of the Nigerian league with 26 points after 14 matches and are two points ahead of second-place Enugu Rangers.
