Rotary International District 9127 has honoured the Chief Executive Officer of Silver-Cross Hospital and Foundation, Dr Patrick Ezie, for his contributions to the treatment of women with breast cancer.

Dr Ezie was also presented with a meritorious service award in recognition of his outstanding performance as the second-best Assistant Governor in Zone 1, District 9127, for the 2024–2025 Rotary year.

The awards were presented during the installation of Princess Joy Okoro as the District Governor for the 2025–2026 Rotary year, on Saturday in Abuja.

Reacting to the recognition, Ezie, who also served as Head of Medical Mission, Rotary District 9127, said the honours were a result of medical outreaches and cancer support initiatives he led.

He said: “Apart from the medical outreach, I was able to raise funds to support the surgical operations of women diagnosed with breast cancer and commence their chemotherapy.

“So, it was for that singular effect that I was considered for the Rotarian of the Year Outstanding Award. This award speaks volumes to what Rotary is all about.

“Where there is a problem, we try to solve it. By providing free breast cancer surgeries, each costing about N2.2 million, we saved women a lot of pain and trauma.

“We had women come from Ekiti State, Nasarawa, and other parts of the country. The surgeries were done at Silver-Cross Hospital”.

Ezie said the award came as a surprise and has encouraged him to do more through his hospital and foundation.

“When I was carrying out the project, I didn’t expect anything in return. The award will spur me to do more in service to humanity,” he said.

He added that Silver-Cross Hospital had started collaborations with primary healthcare centres in the FCT to identify and tackle critical health challenges in communities.

“It mustn’t be the same project, but wherever we feel our impact will touch many lives, we’ll act. As a hospital and foundation, we’re committed to doing more for the community and for the Rotary family,” he said.

He urged Nigerians to take advantage of free medical outreaches to monitor their health, adding that Rotary Clubs across Nigeria would continue to complement government efforts in improving healthcare.
