Dr Amina Abubakar Bello, wife of Niger state governor, north central Nigeria, has called on the need for regular exercise as a measure to prevent breast cancer.
Dr Amina Bello who is also the founder, Raise Foundation, an NGO for supporting breast cancer patients, stated this during a physical exercise as part of the program designed for sensitisation in marking the 2022 world international cancer week.
The Niger State first lady described breast cancer as the commonest cause of death among women in Nigeria and globally, she said physical exercise especially aerobics exercise at least 3-4 times a week, is one acceptable measure in preventing breast cancer.
“I enjoined women to eat healthy food and develop the habit of frequent self examination of breast cancer before or after their menstruation.”
She further said that early screening detection of cancer goes a long way in saving lives, she advised women who are over forty years of age to endeavour on having a mammogram and cervical cancer screening at least once a year.
She however reiterated her NGO’s commitment to extending hands of fellowship to the women folk towards addressing and taking cancer awareness to all the nooks and crannies of the state.
