Buhari @78: Youths calls for national policy

The Nigerian Government has been urged to provide a National Youths policy that will enable the youths contribute meaningfully to all sectors of National Development.

The Director General Institute of Advance Legal Studies Professor Muhammed Ladan gave the advice while delivering a lecture to mark President Muhammadu Buhari’s 78th birthday with the theme ‘Role of Nigerian Youths in promoting peace, unity and national cohesion’ held in Abuja, Nigeria.

According to Professor Ladan, “there is no way youths in any part of the world contribute to nation building without the governments discharging their responsibility of providing security and welfare for them”.

He advocated the need to economically engage the youths as a way of empowering them and in return, the youths contribute their quota through taxation.

Professor Ladan while congratulating the President, identified youths as important pillar of every nation and drivers of the economy. “Every Nigerian youth is a critical stakeholder in the promotion of the nation’s economy and political development when good policies of economic empowerment are on ground just like ones we have by President Muhammadu Buhari”.

He urged the youths to engage in skill acquisition not only degree qualifications just like other develop countries.

In a good will message Senior Special Assistant to the Minister of Petroleum resources Mr. Umar Frouq while congratulating the president on his 78th birthday, urged Nigerian youths to be patriotic and embrace unity for the development of Nigeria.

He urged Nigerian youths to support good economic policies of the president and make best use of the social investment programmes.

According to the programmes like the anchor borrowers are designed to empower youths to make them self-reliant and contribute to the economy.

Convener of the public lecture Mohammed Salihu said the choice of the topic was done because of President Buhari good policies to the youths of Nigeria.

He advised the youths to desist from being used and dumped by selfish politicians but rather be vanguards of positive change.

The public lecture in commemoration of the 78th birthday of the president featured the cutting of birthday cake and presentation of gifts to deserving personalities.
