Building Industry: FCT Minister calls for stakeholders’ summit

In order to improve the quality of buildings and make houses more affordable for its residents, the Minister of Federal Capital Territory Administration, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello has called for disciplinary meeting of all professionals in the building industry.

While receiving a delegation from the Architects Registration Council of Nigeria, (ARCON) led by its President, Arc. Umaru Aliyu in Abuja, the Minister said that the call has become necessary to enable professionals in the industry to brainstorm and ensure that sanity is brought to the sector.

Malam Bello explained that the industry is a robust sector that has the capacity to provide employment to the teeming populace in the FCT.

He however, applauded the body for their contribution to the development of the Federal Capital Territory.

While advising the Professional body on the need to partner with the FCT as a team, the Minister called for synergy amongst Architects, Engineers, Town Planners, Surveyors and Builders to find a better way to fast track the entire processes from the drawings, building plan approvals and setting out the entire building construction process in the Territory.

He decried a situation where houses are built in estates without giving enough space for green areas as well as space for children to play.

The FCT Administration on its part would make the process transparent and friendly to all players in the industry” he noted.

Earlier, the President of the Architects Registration Council of Nigeria ARCON, Arc. Umaru Aliyu said that the council is working hard to eliminate quacks, and has contributed in reducing the cases of collapsed buildings across the country.

He however stated that “no registered Architect has ever been involved in any case of collapsed building in the capital city”.
