Three story building which was a plaza still under construction collapsed in Onitsha , Anambra State late Monday evening throwing residents and traders at Ochanja market by Woliwo Street Fegge Onitsha into mourning.
VON gathered that Anambra Health Commissioner, Dr. Afam Obidike activated 112 which is the State Emergency and Ambulance Services that helped rescuing trapped individuals at the scene of the building collapse and
the collapsed three storey building comprised over a hundred shops and six persons have been confirmed dead in the incident while 20 other persons were rescued with various levels of injuries.
Meanwhile,rescue operation is currently ongoing, according to the Anambra State Emergency Management Agency.
Some of the workers at the site who excaped death gave an estimate of fifty wortkers who were working at the site at the time of the collapse.
The state commissioner for Environment, Dr. Felix Odimegwu and other government functionaries are on ground while effort is still being made to rescue trapped victims.
Presently,the state governor, Charles Soludo is at the scene.
