Bureau Of Public Procurement Builds Capacity For Procurement Officers
The Bureau of Public Procurement has announced its plans to conduct a capacity-building training initiative aimed at enhancing the skills of procurement officers working within government institutions and agencies.
The 2023 Capacity-Building training programme is scheduled for three weeks at the Digital Bridge Institute in Oshodi, Lagos.
The Director of Research and Training and Strategic Learning of Bureau of Public Procurement, Mr. Adebowale Adedokun, said, “Ignorance is not an excuse, so this training was primarily organised to ensure that officers who are involved in day-to-day management of procurement process are adequately trained and have the knowledge and the practical skills to be able to timely and efficiently deliver on the mandate of their respective organisations, without primarily compromising quality, the cost and ensuring that the community benefits from their activities.”
“We expect that these officers are properly trained and have constantly been given additional capacity because knowledge and information keep evolving,” said Adedokun.
He added that the training was unique because anybody coming into procurement would not assume that they understand procurement processes within the Federal Government and State Government.
He mentioned that the people involved in the training are people within the lower levels, people who just newly got employed or brought into the procurement space which is why it is called the beginner’s course.
“This training is the first line of capacity building that enables them to see the entire procurement system cycle, how it is organised from the beginning to the end,” Adedokun added.
The Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement, Mamman Ahmadu, who was represented by the Director of Database/ICT of the Bureau of Public Procurement, Aliyu Aliyu, commended all the organisations that allowed their officers to be here for this Capacity Development Training into the procurement cadre for a well-refined procurement process.
He said, “Procurement officers have a big role to play in achieving the President’s vision of fighting corruption and getting the economy stronger by following the standard procurement procedures in your dealings.
“Part of the President’s priorities is inclusivity, drawing on all skills base; your being nominated will require fulfilling this Mr. President’s priority. This is an opportunity to ensure that you are not lagging.”
On his part, the Chairman of The Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye, said, participants should ensure that approved procurement processes were followed to be cost-effective and of high quality.
