Burkina Faso Picks AFCON Ticket
Burkina Faso become the fifth team to join hosts Cameroon in January’s finals after a 0-0 draw with the Cranes of Uganda. The 2013 finalists finished third in 2017, but missed the last tournament in Egypt two years ago.
Cameroon 2021 will be the Stallions 13th time in the continental tournament.
The four earlier qualifiers are title holders Algeria, Senegal, Mali and Tunisia.
On Monday, which is the last Matchday in Group B, log leaders Burkina Faso, who have nine points, will host South Sudan. Second placed Uganda with eight points will be away to Malawi (seven points).
Burkina Faso can’t go lower than second spot, whatever happens in both matches will not affect their qualification ticket.
Group B: Uganda 0-0 Burkina Faso (first leg 0-0), South Sudan 0-1 Malawi (first leg Malawi 1-0)
Sudan make a strong case for Cameroon 2021 ticket as they dismiss their hapless hosts. The result brings them level on points with both Ghana and South Africa, who go head-to-head tomorrow in Johannesburg.
Group C: São Tomé and Príncipe 0-2 Sudan (first leg Sudan 4-0)
Group F: Rwanda 1-0 Mozambique (first leg Mozambique 2-0)
Rwanda score their first goal of the group stage after five matches. The lone goal win lift them from the bottom of the table to second spot.
In this group, only one team are required to join hosts Cameroon in the finals. Rwanda, with five points, have to worry about Cape Verde’s match on Friday. The archipelago and island country have four points, just like Mozambique, who are presently placed third.
Group K: Ethiopia 4-0 Madagascar (first leg Madagascar 1-0)
Ethiopia shoot to the top of the table, displacing the Ivorien Elephants, who have the same points with Madagascar.
Niger Republic will host Côte d’Ivoire on Friday, both sides hanging their fate on winning.
