The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has met with the Kano State Task Force to review progress in polio eradication and prepare for the upcoming vaccination campaign.

UNICEF’s Chief of Kano Field Office, Mr Rahama Farah, said the meeting acknowledged a significant reduction in polio cases, from 31 in the previous year to just three cases in 2025.

Mr Farah stressed that vigilance and focused action remain necessary to secure the gains.

He noted that the quality of the upcoming campaign would depend on the timely release of funds, strengthened financial accountability, and the deployment of senior supervisors.

Mr Farah also highlighted a gap between reported and actual coverage figures, calling for greater accuracy and transparency. According to him, a robust team has already been deployed to ensure the success of the campaign.

“Leaders were urged to sustain momentum and make the upcoming campaign the best one yet, ensuring that no child is left unvaccinated. The meeting emphasised the need for precision, accountability, and unwavering political commitment to achieve a polio-free status,” he said.
