The candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Mr Jersey David Tanko has been declared winner of the bye-election for Chikun State Assembly constituency.
The INEC Returning Officer for the election, Professor Haliru Isah Bayero of the Ahmadu Bello University ABU, Zaria announced Mr Jersey David Tanko as the winner having satisfied the electoral law and scored the highest votes and returned elected.
According to Professor Bayero, ten political parties contested in the bye-election in which Tanko scored 18,566 votes to defeat his closet opponent Mrs Maria Samuel Dogo of the PDP who scored 10,903 votes.
He commended all those that have contributed to the success of the election which he described as peaceful.
The bye-election which was conducted across the 12 wards of Chikun Local Government Area followed the death of a former member, Mr Madami Garba Madami who died few days after he was inuagurated as a member of the seventh Kaduna State House of Assembly.
In an interview shortly after being declared winner, Tanko appreciated all those that have contributed to the success of his victory right from the primary to the final elections.
The Member elect who said he will operate an open door policy called on those that contested with him to consider the outcome of the election as an act of God and join hands with him towards moving Chikun Local Government Area forward.
