Bye-Election: INEC Promises Free, Fair Election In Ebonyi State

Nigeria’s electoral body, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has promised a free, fair and credible Senatorial Bye-Election slated for February 3rd in Ebonyi State.
INEC’s Head of Voter Education and Publicly in Ebonyi State, Dr. Christian Elekwa told Voice Of Nigeria correspondent that all is now set for the smooth conduct of the exercise.
Dr. Elekwa said the electoral umpire was committed to ensuring a hitch free election and urged candidates of the eight political parties who will participate in the bye-election, to embrace peace and play by the rules of the game.
Peace Pact
Voice Of Nigeria reports that the eight senatorial candidates, with the chairmen and secretaries of their political parties, will on Thursday, February 1, sign a peace pact at the state collation centre, INEC Headquarters in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.
According to Dr. Elekwa, “the Commission decided to invite the eight political parties participating in the election to the crucial assignment, in her bid to ensure a free, fair, credible and violent free bye-election.”
The Ebonyi South Senatorial Bye-Election became necessary, following the appointment of Senator David Umahi who occupied the position as Minister, by President Ahmed Bola Tinubu.
