Low turnout of voters is witnessed at the re-run and bye-election for the State and Federal Constituencies election in parts of Kaduna State.

Poling units visited including; Narayi and Sabo wards in Chikun local government area witnessed poor turnout of voters inspite early arrival of INEC officials with materials for the exercise.

Also, the units witnessed adequate presence of security agents who had taken position to ensure a hitch free exercise.

Voters at the polling units attributed the low turnout to the harsh, cold weather being experienced, hoping that later in the day, more voters might join the queue

However, in some wards in Kaduna south, particularly Kakuri/Makera, there is larger turn out of voters.

In the wards, voting materials arrived early but some hoodlums were seen at the venue of the election trying to cause chaos.

This action led to the reinforcement of more security personnel at the ward. People were asked to leave the area and afterwards, only accredited voters were allowed access to the polling units.

The situation according to some residents could be due to the re-run between the Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Yusuf Liman and his opponent Katuka Solomon.

But as at the time of filling this report, the situation in Kakuri/Makera ward is calm and peaceful with voting in progress.
