Nigerian club Enyimba FC put in a masterclass performance against Mozambique’s Black Bulls with a clinical 4-1 thrashing in their CAF Confederation Cup Group D encounter, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

A stunning brace by Joseph Atule, along with Ifeanyi Ihemekwele and Brown Ideye’s individual strikes, saw the Nigerians record the highest score of the first round of fixtures on Sunday.

The emphatic victory marked a return to form for the two-time African champions, as they reignited their hopes of advancing from Group D despite remaining bottom of the table.

The victory was a marked improvement for Enyimba, who had managed just two goals in their previous five qualifying and group-stage matches.

Next Sunday, Enyimba will host Al Masry in Uyo, in what promises to be a thrilling showdown. The Nigerian side will be seeking to avenge its 2-0 defeat to Masry in North Africa last November.

A win would not only bolster their qualification hopes but also restore confidence as they push for continental glory.

In a simultaneous Group D tie, reigning champions Zamalek were held to a goalless draw in an Egyptian derby by Al Masry.

The two Group D results see Zamalek remaining at the top followed by Al-Masry, while Black Bulls and Enyimba are tied on four points each.
