CAF Cup : Rivers United to face holders USM Alger

Nigeria’s Rivers United have been handed a tough tie against defending champions USM Alger of Algeria in the 2023/24 CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinal fixture.
Rivers United came from a goal down against Ghana’s Dreams FC to navigate their way into the Confederation Cup quarterfinals after securing a late 2-1 win.

In the game, Dream FC went ahead against the run of play in Uyo when Abdul Aziz Issha found the net in the 40th minute.

Rivers United fought back to equalise in the 61st minute through Echeta Deputy to put the score at 1-1.

The Nigerian side went on to grab a late winner in the 10th minute of added time, through Kazie Goodwill. The result in the other group stage game guaranteed Rivers United a passage to the quarterfinals.

The first leg will be held on March 31, and the second leg will take place on April 7.

The winner of the tie will face one of Libya’s Abu Salim or RS Berkane of Morocco.
