CAF General Secretary Veron Mosengo-Omba wrapped up a two-day working visit in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire where he held several meetings on the preparations of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) scheduled to hold in Cote d’Ivoire.

Mosengo-Omba, accompanied by a CAF delegation, met the Prime Minister His Excellency Patrick Achi, Sports Minister Paulin Claude Danho, Local Organising Committee and Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) leadership.

The CAF General Secretary also convened a special word of gratitude from CAF President Patrice Motsepe to His Excellency President Alassan Ouattara for his tieless support to make the 2023 AFCON the best ever organised in terms of infrastructure and competitiveness.

“When the CAF President, Dr Motsepe visited Cote d’Ivoire earlier this year, he made a commitment that the CAF administration will work closer with the Ivorian people in delivering a successful TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations 2023,” Mosengo-Omba said.

“It is important that we implement that commitment. The purpose of this working visit was to work and discuss key documents that are essential in the delivery of the Africa Cup of Nations Cote d’Ivoire 2023.”

“This includes Host Country Agreement, government guarantees and other legal documents governing the delivery of the event. This process will culminate with the official signing of the final agreements.”

“We also exchanged notes on the roles of each party of this relationship between CAF, Ivorian government and to the Ivorian Football Federation,” Dikko added. One of the most important structures is the Local Organising Committee and, after our discussions, I feel we are finding each other on all important points.”

“I must thank the Prime Minister, His Excellency Achi for his continued support. He has once again re-affirmed the commitment he made to President Motsepe. The Minister of Sport Mr Danho has been an active member of our team, we thank him for always going an extra mile to assist.”

Earlier, Dikko met President of FIF – Idriss Diallo who has recently taken over the leadership of football in the country.

“Our interactions with President Diallo were very good. We updated him on the work that has been done already and updated him on the matters on the table going forward,” Mosengo-Omba concluded.
