CAF Women’s Champions League: ASFAR Eases Past Rivers Angels
Nigeria’s representative at the maiden edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League, Rivers Angels, were beaten 3-0 by Moroccan club ASFAR FC courtesy of a hat-trick by Sanaa Mssoudy at the El Salam Stadium in Cairo, Egypt.
The Group B encounter saw Sanaa open the scoring in the 31st minute. Sanaa then extended ASFAR FC’s lead in the 74th minute after a brilliant individual display of skill, before scoring her third in the 84th minute.
Sanaa Mssoudy made history as she registered the first hat-trick in the Women’s Champions League.
“I’m very happy to be the first player to score a hat-trick in WCL, I dedicate it to my father who passed away,” Woman-of-The-Match Mssoudy said.
“My favourite goal of the hat-trick was the second one because I showed my capabilities and skills in it. It’s all due to my team’s efforts.”
The defeat leaves the Rivers State based club in the bottom of Group B after South African side, Mamelodi Sundowns beat Vihiga Queens 1-0 in the first Group B match. ASFAR tops the Group B table.
“The team is tired from all the traveling issues and that’s the normal result,” Rivers Angels coach Edwin Okon said. “My job is to pick up their spirit, let them know that the game is over and recover for the next matches.”
Rivers Angels will take on Mamelodi Sundowns in their second Group B match on Tuesday, November 9, 2021.
