Cameroon Stages Late Comeback To Draw Serbia

Cameroon staged a late comeback to hold Serbia after a pulsating 3-3 draw in Group G of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, at the Al Janoub Stadium in Al Wakrah, Qatar.

The Africans started with Eric Choupo-Moting in attack, supported by Bryan Mbeumo and Karl Toko Ekambi on the flanks. Serbia had Aleksandar Mitrovic up-front, with Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Dusan Tadic completing the front-three.

The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon opened the scoring through defender Jean-Charles Castelletto in the 29th minutes.

Serbia then scored twice in first half stoppage through left-back Strahinja Pavlovic and midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, to give the Europeans a lead going into the break.

Early in the second half, Mitrovic added another goal to extend Serbia’s lead, putting Cameroon under enormous pressure in the encounter.

Veteran striker Vincent Aboubakar was then called off the bench to try and rescue Cameroon and he delivered.

In the 63rd minute, Aboubakar to pulled a goal back for the Africans with a stunning chip over Serbia goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, sending the Cameroon fans into a frenzy.

Aboubakar was impressive after coming and turned provider to complete Cameroon’s comeback in spectacular fashion.

The former FC Porto striker beat his man on the right side of the box and found Choupo-Moting, who tapped the ball into the net to make the scores 3-3.

From then on, it was end-to-end football as both sides looked for the winner in the highly entertaining match.

However, the match finished 3-3, a result that left both sides on one point in Group G and needing a win in their final match to have any chance of progressing.

Cameroon will face Brazil on Friday, while  Serbia will take on Switzerland for a chance in the last 16.
