Cancer Society Tasks Nigerians On Healthy Lifestyles

The Nigeria Cancer Society, NCS, Ekiti branch, has urged Nigerians to live healthy lifestyles,  to reduce the prevalence of the disease.

The Chairman, Dr Abidemi Omolusi, made the call in Ado-Ekiti while speaking with newsmen to commemorate the 2023 edition of World Cancer Day.

He said, “it is important for Nigerians to abstain from unhealthy lifestyles and practices that could make them to develop cancer.”

Omolusi, a Consultant Anatomical Pathologist with the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, also identified early detection as the best way to tackle cancer.

The expert further encouraged people to abstain from alcohol and indulge in physical activities to avoid cancer.

He said; “The fight against cancer requires our collective commitment. We must ensure early detection.

“We should avoid smoking and alcohol. Indulge in physical exercises and generally live healthy lifestyles.”

Omolusi urged governments at all levels to show commitment to the campaign against cancer by building cancer awareness and treatment centres.

World Cancer Day is celebrated annually on Feb. 4.

This year’s theme was: “Close the Care Gap.”
