Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly Balarabe Abdullahi has enjoined all the 13 local government (LG) chairmen in the state to ensure that they carry members of their legislative arms along in their affairs. According to the Speaker, this would give room for smooth administration at the third tier of Government in the state and enhance peace, unity, and development.
Balarabe made the statement while playing host to all the 13 LG Speakers warned them against disrespect for their colleagues the councilors as well as chairmen which may lead to crisis or any impeachment move.
“We will be watching your activities closely from here. The legislative institution is a house of equal therefore all legislators can not be speakers at a time, do not abuse the privilege and try to carry all your colleagues along.
“We in the state assembly are peaceful because we understand ourselves and work in unity irrespective of our differences. We are one united family and this is exactly what we want you to represent.”
“Your people elected you on trust and confidence; do not betray them. They need water, schools, hospitals, and good roads; this is what they want to see and the only way to achieve it is to work in peace, synergy and understanding with the executives. This will attract development for your people and also, always resolve your differences internally with the executive. If any chairman misbehaves, let us know and don’t get confrontational. We are familiar with such situations and we will deal with it accordingly.
“I, therefore, use this medium to also advise the chairmen to operate with the fear of God and with the vision of the law; carrying their councilors along so that we can all have a smooth, administration from the grassroots.”
The leader of the LG Speakers and the Speaker of Obi Legislative Arm, Mailafia Abdulmalik said the visit was among other things to appreciate the Speaker for his outstanding leadership qualities which brought about meaningful development in the state;to tap from his knowledge, and present their request to him.
