The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Air Force’s (NAF) dedication to youth development and quality education at the Joint Passing Out Parade of the Air Force Military School (AFMS) and Air Force Girls Military School (AFGMS) in Jos.

The event, which also marked the 45th anniversary of AFMS, honoured the graduating class and celebrated the institution’s legacy.

“This milestone is a testament to the vision, resilience, and impact of this great institution,” Air Marshal Abubakar said.

He recalled serving as an instructor at AFMS nearly 30 years ago and expressed pride in returning as the Air Chief.

“That experience shaped my perspective on youth development, discipline, and the role of military-style education in grooming future leaders,” he said, adding that those values remain vital today.

The CAS noted that since its inception in 1980, AFMS has graduated over 6,200 students who have excelled in the military, public service, academia, and industry both within and outside Nigeria.

He commended the AFMS Alumni Association for executing impactful projects that have supported the school.

“This noble gesture speaks volumes about their enduring commitment to service and legacy,” he said.

Abubakar highlighted NAF’s growing profile in education, describing its primary and secondary schools as among the most competitive and sought-after in Nigeria.

“This is not a coincidence but the result of carefully implemented policies to ensure the highest standards,” he stated.

He announced the establishment of new schools in Abuja, Igbara-Oke, and Kaduna, and efforts to integrate all NAFOWA-owned schools into a unified educational system. Renovation efforts are ongoing, with AFMS set to benefit from major upgrades, including improved feeding systems and clean water access.

In a key announcement, the CAS revealed the revival of a programme to absorb Ex-Junior Airmen and Airwomen into the NAF, offering graduates of both schools a pathway into military service after further training.

“This initiative strengthens our human capital base and preserves the military ethos instilled in these young boys and girls,” he said.

Addressing the graduates, he praised their discipline and drill displays.

“You are the future of Nigeria. Lead with purpose, serve with dignity, and never stop learning,” he urged.

He thanked the schools’ leadership, staff, and instructors for their dedication.

“Your commitment has not gone unnoticed,” he said.

The Air Chief also acknowledged President Tinubu’s support for youth development and military education.

“Under his visionary leadership, we have witnessed renewed vigour in the pursuit of excellence across all sectors, including education,” he said, adding that a nation’s greatness lies not only in its weapons but in the quality of its people.

The parade climaxed with vibrant performances and a file past by graduating students, drawing thunderous applause from guests.

The ceremony was attended by senior military officers, parents, families, Ex-JAM and Ex-JAW members, and other well-wishers, whose presence added a vibrant and emotional touch to the occasion.
