Cash Withdrawal Limits: Reps Reschedule Meeting with CBN Governor

The House of Representatives has granted the request by the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN, Mr. Godwin Emefile to reschedule his appearance to brief lawmakers on the controversial cash withdrawal limits introduced by the bank recently.

The CBN Governor was last week summoned by the lawmakers to brief the House on the reasons behind the new policy.

The lawmakers also requested that the apex bank suspend the new policy.

However, the House at plenary received a letter from the Governor of the Bank that he was part of President Muhammadu Buhari’s delegation to Washington DC and therefore will not be able to appear before the House for the scheduled briefing on the proposed policy on cash withdrawal limits.

Consequently, the briefing was rescheduled for next week Tuesday, December 20th, 2022.

Bills submitted 

In another development, a Bill for an Act to Establish the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism for training, certification and registration of hospitality, travel and tourism personnels in Nigeria; and for Related Matters (HB.45) was submitted to the Committee of the Whole.

More so, a Bill for an Act to Provide for the Establishment of the Federal University of Aerospace and Aeronautics, Oka-Akoko and provide for Administration and Discipline of Students of the University; and for Related Matters (HB. 1483) as well as a Bill for an Act to Establish a Federal Infrastructure Rehabilitation Management Agency saddled with the responsibility of coordinating and regulating all forms of federal infrastructural rehabilitation of government properties, maintenance, management of government destroyed properties by hoodlums, including repair, reconstruction of affected facilities to sustain the Master Plan and provision of comprehensive database or capturing of all the destroyed government properties and for related matters (HB.1682) were all presented to the Committee of the whole.
