Cash Withdrawal Policy: Reps Frown At CBN Governor’s Failure To Appear
By Gloria Essien, Abuja
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila has revealed that the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Godwin Emiefele would not be appearing before the house as scheduled.
This was contained in a letter read on the floor of the House of Representatives.
Gbajabiamila said that the non appearance of the Governor was due to his engagements outside the country.
He noted that the CBN Governor expressed regrets for his inability to appear before the House.
“Regrettably the Governor is unavailable to brief the House of Representatives at this time because he has other prescheduled official engagements he is currently addressing abroad. Accordingly, he has requested that we respectfully convey his inability to honor the invitation on the rescheduled date. The Governor regrets this and will contact the House of Representatives as soon as he returns to the country from his official assignment” the letter read.

Reacting to the letter, Hon Yusuf Gadi emphasized the need for public officers to always respect the collective will of the Nigerian people.
He said that the Central Bank Governor was being disrespectful by his continuous refusal to appear before the House to explain the Cash Withdrawal Policy to the Nigerian people.
“The crafters of the Nigerian constitution did not make errors to create the House of Representatives and to call for public office holders to account for their activities on behalf of Nigerians” said Hon Gadi.
He commended the House for inviting the Governor and advised that the Central Bank Governor should be made to understand that the House would tolerate no further excuses.
The House therefore mandated the Clerk to write that the Governor should appear before the House or send his deputy who is well equipped to appear on Thursday, 22nd December, 2022.
