Catholic Bishop Calls for Collective Efforts In Fighting Insecurity

The Catholic Bishop of Katsina Diocese in the northwest Nigeria, Most Reverend Gerald Musa has called on general public in the region and the country to rise up and support the federal and state governments’ efforts towards fighting banditry, kidnapping and other forms of criminality in the country.
Most Reverend Gerald Musa made the call while sending his 2025 new year message with news men in Katsina.
He maintained that security is every body’s business, saying “Security can not be left to governments alone, every patriotic citizen must be involved in securing the life of his fellow Nigerians.
Most Reverend urged the general public to report any movement by individual or a stranger suspected to be assisting criminals in the hideouts.
“If you see anybody suspected to be carrying foods or other materials to the bush, that person must be reported to the appropriate authority for necessary and immediate action.
“There are people who are benefitting the insecurity we are facing whom we must collectively fight and bring them to an end”, he added.
He described the cooperation among the governors towards addressing insecurity in the northwest as commendable.
“These are generation of governors we can see working together to addressing security challenges in their different states with emphasis on synergising at their boarder areas”.
Most Reverend however, called on the governments at all levels to go back to their drawing boards to identify the root causes of the phenomenon in order to find out it’s lasting solution.
He noted “the unemployed youths are being used by the enemies of the nation perpetrating insecurity in our communities.
“Unemployment is part of it because jobless youth are being recruited by questionable characters who are out to foment troubles in order to achieve their ugly agendas”, he stated.
Most Reverend Gerald Musa urged governments at all levels to create enabling environment for job creation to ensure better economic prosperity, there by protecting the vulnerable youth from being used by some bad elements within and outside the country.
